To prevent cold weather, the method of burying soil is used without the need to dig trenches on the ground. The thickness of the covering soil depends on the local absolute minimum temperature and the cold resistance of the plants being grown. Typically, the soil covering should be around 20 cm when the winter temperature drops to -15 °C, and 25 cm when it reaches -17 °C. The thicker the covering soil, the lower the temperature. Some varieties like Kyoho and white banana, which possess strong cold resistance, can have a slightly thinner soil covering.

These plants require more than 4 hours of direct sunlight and have good adaptability to temperature changes, becoming dormant in the summer. They thrive in fertile, neutral to slightly alkaline soil with a pH level between 6.5-8.0. The soil should be warm with excellent drainage to prevent water accumulation, which can lead to roots becoming waterlogged.

When planting, make sure the depth is 5-8cm with a spacing of 8-10cm, allowing for close planting if desired. After pruning the plants during their dormancy period, be sure to remove any dead branches and store the bulbs in a cool, dry place for optimal growth.
