Seed sowing: Two Ways to Success

One way to sow seeds is in mid-September, planting them in the garden at a depth of 2 cm with a distance of 10 cm between rows and in each row. To protect tender sprouts from frost in autumn and spring, cover them with synthetic padding to create an air cushion.

Another method is stratifying the seeds by wrapping them in a damp cloth, placing them in a closed container, and keeping them on the top shelf of the refrigerator for 1 month. In February, sow the seeds in peat pots burying them 2 cm deep. Seedlings require light and warmth to thrive.

The peak season of interest for irises is typically in May and June, with lush flowering potentially lasting until the end of June. Autumn-blooming irises may also produce flowers in August and September.

It is important to note that the more elegant and variegated the iris variety in your flower bed, the higher the likelihood of disease and pest issues. Proper agricultural care is essential for keeping your plants healthy. Regular monitoring throughout the growing season is necessary to spot and address problems promptly.

If you notice signs of Fusarium or other types of rot affecting your plants, act quickly. Remove and destroy any diseased specimens immediately. Treat the remaining irises by drenching the roots and surrounding soil with a two-percent solution of Fundazole to prevent further spread of the disease.
